Wow! More than 2 Years Since We Posted About MyST!

Let's catch up by stepping back to the first post - it was about unintended consequences.

Why no posting activity you ask? Well, lots of excuses - no good reasons. But we have been pretty busy building out MyST Blogsite and there's a lots of content over there worth a read if you're interested in the finest and most advanced corporate publishing solution for the conversational web. ;-)

As I look back at the reason we started this channel - it reopens my mind - I have lots to say in spite of the publishing gap. In the first post (22 Feb 2003) I said...

"... this architecture is well positioned to solve problems that are far beyond today's intended objectives."

I guess I was right - we're using the MyST Platform for managing MyST Enterprise RSS services and as the foundation for MyST Blogsite®; neither of these ideas were in the forefront of our minds, and somewhat surprising -- the platform architecture has hardly changed since then. What has changed is the agility the platform has provided. It has enabled rapid development of tools such as Topic Cloud - take a peek at the cloud on this site.

As we look back, the content in this channel was created long before Blogsite was even an idea on an envelope. Yet here it is - transformed right into this Blogsite that serves as the primary website for our company. Almost zero effort has been exteneded to keep this blog channel live and producing visitors. It's a part of MyST's scaffolding that extends all the way to the foundation, but it continues to produce great visibility for us in spite of near complete neglect.

I also mentioned disruption in that post but we certainly haven't changed the world. We have changed our lives though - more on that next week.

There are many blog tools out there - few have considered the necessity to embrace all spoken languages.

This thread item on the bloggerDev group caught my eye:

"I'm a Chinese user, there is a small problem with the generated filename that it can't give a representative filename when I submit a post with a chinese word title. So, I suggest that blogger.com can add a new textfield for non-english users (e.g Chinese, Korean, Japanese) to provide representative filenames for their posts." -- bloggerDev Member

Like the security model, the last thing you want to do is consider these types of architectural issues after the system has been released.

Podcasting: Agility is a Requirement

When we first designed the MyST platform, podcasting was non-existent, but MyST rises to the emerging challenges in podcast requirements for businesses.

We often like to say that MyST supports loosely-coupled computing requirements; even requirements that have not yet been defined. ;-)

The emergence of podcasting is a good example of something that simply didn't exist until after the MyST platform was development. But an idea that we readily support. The ability to support things like podcasting is primarily because we attempt to embrace requirements agility whenever possible. As we design new capabilities, we always consider the unlikely a real possibility. This makes it possible for a blog post (such as this one) to include an MP3 and present it appropriately (see the link to Geek News Central below).
