Power versus Elegance...

Who is the typical MySmartChannels user?

MySmartChannels 1.1 is an application designed for well-versed knowledge-officers, IT administrators, and power-users. It is a UI that is designed to expose the power, but not necessarily an elegant interface for general knowledge-workers.

As we work closer towards supporting the broader knowledge-worker audience, the UI will become more simplified and will not have all the buttons and options you presently see (such as RSS and OPML). We believe (in the early adoption period) 20% of the users of MySmartChannels will be "knowledge-producers" and 80% will be "knowledge-consumers". With that ratio in mind, imagine knowledge-consumers using simple interfaces like the weblog view, or KlipFolio. With proper permissions, weblog users may view, search, and add content without leaving the Web page. As such, we envision channel authors and channel administrators sharing only the weblog view as the access point for the general user community.
